3D Printing in Cleveland

If you are new to 3D printing or just new to Cleveland, Ohio, here are a few tips to keep in mind when it comes to finding a 3D printer.

The most common choice in 2026 is simply to purchase a 3D printer and try it yourself. Common user-friendly 3D printers are readily available today at affordable prices. Bambu, Anycubic, Flashforge, Elegoo, and Creality all offer reliable PLA 3D printers for less than most cell phones or game systems, and many offer at least one model under $200.

My personal choice for my first PLA 3D printer was the four-color Anycubic Kobra S1 ACE Combo, and it has proven itself over the last year. I bought it because it was enclosed, quieter, simpler to use, and even marketed to children and families, while offering a multi-color option with high reviews. Thus far, I’ve been happy. I’ve heard good things about many of the other manufacturers but can only speak to the one I’ve used.

3D Printing alternatives

However, some people don’t have the space, time, tech savvy, or finances to deal with a new creative tool. That could be a large number of people, but that doesn’t mean they can’t take advantage of this new tool. Often community organizations provide this service and the equipment free of charge in libraries, colleges, and STEM community centers. Most of the time, the only thing you pay for is the filament used, which generally is far cheaper than retail costs of 3D-printed products.

In Cleveland as of May, 2026, here are a few available to the community for appointments and/or walk-ins:

Several organizations in Cleveland, Ohio, offer 3D printing access to the public, including Case Western Reserve University’s think[box], Cuyahoga County Public Library Innovation Centers, Cleveland Public Library TechCentral, and Tri-C’s Ideation Station. These locations typically require a library card or orientation, providing affordable, sometimes free, 3D printing for community members.
Case Western Reserve University – think[box]: A major center that is open to the public for prototyping and fabrication.
Cuyahoga County Public Library Innovation Centers: Located at 6+ branches (e.g., Solon, Parma-Snow), offering 3D printing, laser cutting, and design software. Users pay only for consumable materials (approximately 10 cents/gram).
Cleveland Public Library – TechCentral MakerSpace: Located in the Main Library downtown, it provides 3D printers and scanners, often with low-cost (approx. 5 cents/gram) material fees.
Tri-C Workforce – Ideation Station: A 2,400-square-foot fab lab featuring 3D printers and workshops to support local entrepreneurs and students.
Cleveland Community Forward Learning Centers: Offers 3D printers at locations such as the Clark Fulton library and Union Miles Rec Center.
Makers’ Alliance: A local community group that often supports maker activities in the Cleveland area.
Important Notes:
Orientation Required: Many library centers, like CCPL, require an orientation class to use their equipment.
File Format: Most facilities require designs to be submitted in .STL format.
Cost: While many libraries offer free time on machines, they often charge for the plastic filament (PLA) used.
